Longbow – A New British Sportscar

Longbow Motorcar Co., Ltd., a British automotive startup established in 2023, aims to rejuvenate the legacy of lightweight British sports cars by introducing electric models that prioritize agility and driving pleasure. The company was founded by Daniel Davey, Jenny Keisu, and Mark Tapscott, who collectively bring extensive experience from renowned firms such as Tesla, Lucid Motors, BYD, and X Shore.

Longbow’s inaugural offerings are the Speedster and Roadster, both designed as “Featherweight Electric Vehicles” (FEVs) with a focus on minimal weight and maximum performance. The Speedster, an open-top model without a windscreen or roof, weighs approximately 895 kg and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Roadster, featuring a weather-tight roof and windscreen, weighs around 995 kg and achieves the same acceleration in 3.6 seconds. Both vehicles are built on bespoke aluminium chassis engineered for stiffness and lightness.

Longbow’s mission is to create driver-oriented, lightweight electric sports cars that are both attainable and exhilarating. The company plans to hand-build these vehicles in the UK, leveraging the country’s rich motorsport and high-performance engineering heritage. The Speedster is set for limited production of 150 units, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026 and a starting price of £84,995. The Roadster will follow, priced from £64,995. Longbow’s Speedster and Roadster models are slated for production in 2026. By focusing on lightweight construction and driver engagement, Longbow seeks to offer a unique alternative in the electric sports car market, blending traditional British sports car values with modern electric technology.

Longbow’s Speedster and Roadster models are built upon a bespoke aluminium chassis engineered to minimize weight and maximize stiffness. This custom platform is specifically designed to achieve the company’s goal of creating lightweight electric sports cars, with the Speedster weighing approximately 895 kg and the Roadster around 995 kg. By developing this unique chassis, Longbow ensures that their vehicles embody the agility and performance characteristics reminiscent of classic British sports cars, while integrating modern electric drivetrains.

1. Featherweight Electric Vehicles (FEVs)

  • Unlike most electric vehicles (EVs) that are heavy due to large batteries, Longbow’s cars weigh under 1,000 kg—a rarity for EVs.
  • The Speedster weighs just 895 kg, and the Roadster is 995 kg, making them some of the lightest EVs available.

2. Custom Aluminium Chassis

  • Longbow designed a bespoke aluminium platform for high stiffness and low weight, ensuring agile handling.
  • This chassis is key to delivering a raw, engaging driving experience, similar to classic British sports cars.

3. Performance & Acceleration

  • 0-62 mph in just 3.5 seconds for the Speedster (3.6 sec for the Roadster).
  • Combines light weight with instant EV torque, offering rapid acceleration without excessive power.

4. Pure Driving Experience

  • The Speedster has no windscreen or roof, making it a thrilling open-air experience.
  • Focuses on handling over outright power, competing with cars like the Alpine A110 and Porsche Cayman but in an electric form.

5. Limited Production & Hand-Built Quality

  • Only 150 Speedsters will be made, ensuring exclusivity.
  • Hand-built in the UK, drawing from Britain’s motorsport and sports car heritage.

6. Pricing & Market Position

  • Starts at £64,995 for the Roadster and £84,995 for the Speedster.
  • Targets enthusiasts looking for a lightweight, electric alternative to traditional petrol sports cars.

In short, Longbow is reviving the spirit of lightweight British sports cars—but in an electric form, blending modern EV technology with pure, analogue driving joy.
